HISTORY OF THE REVA
In October 2004, a renowned security company identified the need for a vehicle to protect their personnel during the Iraqi conflict. With the heightened hostility in the area, the increase in Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Sniper Fire as well as the combination of urban and rural terrain, they could not find a vehicle which could afford the maximum protection required. Flip Marx, with his tactical and technical Special Forces background and expertise was approached to design a solution.
The result was the REVA Armored Personnel Carrier, designed with a solid monocoque hull in a unique V-shape, a combat proven anti-landmine design. The first REVA was manufactured and delivered in December 2004 and immediately put into operation in Iraq. The REVA proved its worth and user suggested additions, double skin armoring and 63 mm armored laminated glass were incorporated into the design.
The REVA was evaluated by the US Army in Iraq and Integrated Convoy Protection (Pty) Ltd was awarded a contract to supply a substantial number of REVAs for deployment there. The ongoing success of the vehicle in operations and exceptional performance in protecting the lives of civilian and military personnel resulted in further contracts, not only in Iraq but also for US Special Forces operations and most recently for the Royal Thai Army. Currently more than 200 REVAs are being utilized in Iraq.
Constant feedback from users and military advisers has resulted in essential additions to the design of the vehicle and currently there are four models of REVA vehicles being produced, the REVA III 4x4 Automatic Long Wheel Base, the REVA IV 4x4 Automatic Long Wheel Base the REVA III 4x2 Automatic Short Wheel Base and the REVA V 4x4 Automatic Long Wheel Base.
